Lot Essay

The present unsigned work bears the stamp of the sculpture gallery Bellman, Ivey and Carter, a well-established firm of plasterers and cement manufacturers. The gallery was opened in 1885 with an exhibition of forty-two works by Thomas Nelson MacLean and further shows followed exhibiting reductions of works by prevalent British, French and Italian sculptors.
