The crest is perhaps that of John Manners, Marquess of Granby, eldest son of the third Duke of Rutland, who became a popular hero after the Battle of Minden in 1759, when he acted as Commander-in-Chief of the British Forces under the Duke of Brunswick.

For a similar teapot-stand see Bernard Watney, 'Armorial and Inscribed Longton Hall Porcelain', The Antique Collector, April 1955, fig. 1. An identically decorated service from the collection of B.H. Bourke Esq., was sold by Sotheby's on 12 May 1959, lot 43.
