Lot Essay

The original service was most probably made for Thomas Cobbe of Newbridge House, Co. Dublin, rather than his father Charles, Archbishop of Dublin, as previously thought. It is interesting to note that the Newbridge household accounts of July 17, 1796, record "Reeds bill for knives and forks to China handles....10 /-" which could refer to the Chamberlain's replacements
