A SÈVRES BLUE-GROUND PLATE FROM THE SERVICE DES PÊCHES

The centre painted by L. Garneray with PÊCHE DU TON À LA MADRAGUE., named on a gilt label below, the well gilt with crustacea and shells on a gilt net ground, the blue border gilt with humming-birds and groups of aquatic trophies flanked by platinum seaweed, the reverse inscribed Pêche du Thon à la Madrague/(à Cannes.)/Une fois le Poisson réuni en assez grand nombre dans la chambre du fond, dite la mort, on en ferme la porte, toutes les embarquations se placent autour de ses parois et on relève les Filets, signed, incised D and 39-3 and with D.1er f.n 39.S.F. in green and No 15.R.t in gilt, stencilled crowned LP monogram and Sevres 1840 within a double circle in blue
