cover 1648 (24 June) entire letter from Taunton addressed "ffor his much respected ffriend Drayner Massingberd at London in Lincolns Inne-Fields nere the Lord Brudenalls" and "post payd." at lower-left. The letter content (in Latin) refers to troop re-inforcements at Fort Dunster and intriguingly notes "your advice is good that I should be discreet in matters with the fisherman" which is believed to a coded reference to the Pope or the Catholic church. A clean and neat Civil War item. Rare. Photo
