A REGENCY BRASS-MOUNTED ROSEWOOD AND PARCEL-GILT CARD-TABLE

The crossbanded and fruitwood-banded rounded rectangular swivel-top enclosing a green baize-lined interior, above a shallow breakfront frieze with simulated panels and central lozenge, the octagonal baluster shaft issuing from acanthus and on a gadrooned circular platform, on a canted concave-sided rectangular base with scrolling gadrooned feet and brass castors

Lot Essay

This card-table, with Grecian palm-wrapped baluster on altar-plinth in the manner of card-tables in the George IV antique style, is illustrated in George Smith's Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1826, and Peter Nicholson's Practical Cabinet-Maker, 1826 (E. White, British 18th Century Furniture Design, Woodbridge, 1990, p. 491).
