The sitter was a fellow student of the artist at the Manchester Art School. Every evening he would escort her from the school to the railway station, but he told the present owners that 'after Christmas she didn't come back to art school, and I never saw her again'.

Brian and Pat Cooke who have owned this drawing for over thirty years, hope to establish 'The L.S. Lowry Prize For Drawing', which is aimed at young art students.
