This painting was given to Susanna Faulds when the artist stayed with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Faulds in Stratford-on-Avon. It was originally titled 'The Two Girls', however, after witnessing bickering between Susanna and her friend, Lowry decided that the title 'The Argument' was more appropriate.
