A CAUCASIAN KINDJAL
DATED 1856
With broad blade hollow ground and with central ridge on each side, the right side stamped twice with a mark 'Amal i Jafar' ('the work of Jafar'), and nielloed silver-mounted hilt with ivory grips, in original wooden scabbard covered with black leather and with silver mounts nielloed on the right side with numerous trefoil-like ornaments on a matted ground, on the left side of the locket the nielloed inscription 'Murtza Ali' together with the date 1272 A.H. (1856 A.D.), complete with ivory-handled by-knife
