With curved broad hollow-ground blade etched and gilt against a blued ground for most of its length on both sides, with, on one face, the royal arms, a laurel wreath, a trophy of arms and a demi winged horse, and on the othern with a floral spray, a crowned 'GR' monogram, a cavalry man, and a crowned Irish harp, the faceted steel stirrup hilt with traces of blueing, and leather-covered wire-bound wooden grip, in original iron scabbard with two suspension rings

An example of the 1796 Light Cavalry pattern sabre. The prominence of the Irish harp on the blade suggest that it was made for an officer in an Irish regiment
