With colichemarde blade of hollow-triangular section, the forte etched and gilt (gilding worn) with strapwork, trophies and floral designs, including, at the base, two cartouches each framing a lion pierced with an arrow over the inscription 'Rien Ne M'Arrete', iron hilt chiselled in relief throughout with trophies of arms and instruments symbolising the arts and sciences, the spaces between filled with scrolling foliage and flowers against a matt gilt ground, and original wooden grip bound with twisted silver wire and silver ribbon
