A RARE ENGLISH SILVER-HILTED 'TRANSITIONAL' SMALL-SWORD

LONDON BRITANNIA STANDARD HALLMARK AND DATE LETTER FOR 1704

The slender sharply-tapering blade of stiff diamond section with narrow fuller on each face of the forte stamped 'De Alonso Pe/rez En Toledo', the hilt with two shell guards, arms with inward scrolling lobed tips, short vertically recurved quillons with lobed tips, and globular pommel with button, cast and chased at intervals with foliage surrounding oval pearl-bordered medallions against a stippled ground, and with later wooden grip bound with silver wire and retaining the original silver ferrules (slightly incomplete)
