A FRENCH COMB MORION

CIRCA 1580

Made of two halves of thick iron, with high roped comb and narrow downturned brim with turned and roped edges, and a peak fore and aft (one peak replaced with a modern patch), the base of the skull (repaired on one side) encircled by a row of lining-rivets with brass washers, etched overall with a pattern of interlaced strapwork forming quatrefoil panels framing trophies of arms, armour and musical instruments (patinated overall)
