A FINE 22-BORE TURKISH MIQUELET-LOCK RIFLE

DATED 1792

With swamped etched twist sighted barrel cut with twelve grooves, decorated with a running design of flowers and foliage in encrusted silver and gold at the muzzle and breech, set with two silver bands, that at the muzzle with the date 1207 A.H., that at the breech with an indistinct inscription, and retained by seven engraved and slotted silver barrel-bands each stamped with a mark in the form of the Tughra of Sultan Mahmud II (1808-1839), standing back-sight decorated with encrusted silver and gold and pierced with three apertures, iron tang covered with engraved silver and with engraved silver apron, characteristic lock with encrusted silver and gold decoration, maple full stock profusely inlaid with rosettes of brass and green-stained bone (a few missing), brass nails and bone panels, the butt segmented with lines of ebony and bone (some replaced) and set with a line of dome-headed nails (some heads missing), two silver sling loops, iron button trigger, horn fore-end cap, and later wooden ramrod
