A 22-BORE GERMAN FLINTLOCK FOWLING-PIECE

With blued two-stage barrel inlaid with silver strapwork and with silver signature and date on the top flat of the octagonal breech, at the rear a band of silver dots with two parallel silver lines, and the silver-lined maker's stamp (Neue Støckel 7717), silver spider fore-sight, border engraved tang, signed bevelled lock with rounded tail, moulded figured walnut half-stock (minor cracks) finely carved with rococo scrollwork in relief, and inlaid on the butt with staghorn scrollwork and on the cheek-piece with an oval mother-of-pearl medallion, shaped border engraved brass mounts, pierced barrel-band, small butt-trap with pivoted brass cover, natural staghorn fore-end cap, brass ramrod-pipes en suite with the mounts, and later ramrod retaining the tip from the original one (sling mounts removed)
