A GERMAN TWO-HAND SWORD

CIRCA 1550

The broad double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section with two triangular basal lugs and long ricasso, the forte engraved with S's and star-like devices, the iron hilt comprising long trumpet-shaped quillons with a ring on each side, each writhen at the centre, later barrel-shaped fluted pommel, and wooden grip bound with cord and covered in leather (binding and covering incomplete)
