A PAIR OF 22-BORE TURKISH SILVER-STOCKED FLINTLOCK PISTOLS, IN LEATHER HOLSTER
EARLY 19TH CENTURY
With iron barrels inlaid with a panel of silver strapwork at the breech, with a pseudo-calligraphic inscription on the sighting rib, and fitted with an applied grooved chased silver panel on each tang, rounded locks retaining traces of engraving and each with roller and raised pan, cast and chased full stocks, spurred pommels decorated in high relief against a nielloed ground and with nielloed spurs, cast and chased muzzle-sleeves, and false ramrods (one trigger replaced, one trigger-guard broken): in their leather holster, probably original, the front decorated with patterns of small brass studs and embroidered twice in silver thread with the Tughra of Sultan Mahmud II (1808-1839)
