A RARE PAIR OF 18-BORE NORTH AFRICAN SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS

18TH/19TH CENTURY, PROBABLY ALGERIAN

With minor differences, with three-stage barrels each inlaid at the breech with silver foliage and two decorative silver panels, tangs (one broken) decorated with silver-inlaid guilloche ornament, flat bevelled locks engraved and partly chiselled with foliage (one top jaw and screw replaced), wooden full stocks decorated over their entire length with inlaid, pierced and engraved foliate silver cagework (minor losses and repairs) held by pins and enclosing numerous pieces of shaped coral, mounts comprising trigger-guards, faceted spurred pommels, turned ramrod-pipes, and engraved muzzle-bands (one muzzle-band, ramrod-pipe and rear ramrod-pipe tang replaced), and later silver-capped horn-tipped ramrods 19¼in.
