This in one of several versions of a picture now in the Wolverhampton Art Gallery that Horsley exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1863 (no.157). One version (15 1/8 x 18 1/16in.), dated (like ours) 1865, is in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and two more have been on the London market since 1977. Neither was the present picture since the dimensions differ, one measuring 23 x 27¼in. and the other (de-accessioned by the Getty Museum, Malibu, California) 24 x 29½in.
