CAVALCA, Domenico (ca.1270-1342). Frutti della lingua. Florence: [Bartolommeo di Libri, ca. 1494].

Chancery 4° (212 x 141mm). Collation: π2 a-r8 s4 (π1r title, woodcut, π1v prologue, π2r table, a1r text, s4v colophon). 142 leaves. 33 lines. Type: 1:97R1, 3:114G. Woodcut of friars and nuns, Lombard initials from two sets. (Occasional light spotting or small marginal staining.) 19th-century maroon morocco-backed boards.

Second edition. In the colophon di Libri states that he used as copy a "tutto corropto & falsificato" exemplar printed at Florence; no such earlier edition is known, but di Libri clearly also used as his copy the largely correct edition printed by Laurentius de Morgianis and Johann Petri in 1493. The title woodcut appears in the two other Cavalca works (Goff C-341, C-352) printed by di Libri in or about 1493; these three editions are uniform in format and lay-out. They are also uniform with a series of Savonarola tracts printed by di Libri which also share the same several woodcuts, including the one of friars and nuns used in the Cavalca editions. A LARGE COPY. H *4777; GW 6401; BMC VI, 658 (IA. 27546); Goff C-332; Sander 1849.
