A fine copy of a charming book published to commemorate the Carnival procession of sleighs at Vicenza in 1784. The festivities are described in stanzas naming 28 of the ornatissimi cavalieri e gentilissime dame who took part; they are then depicted in the engraved plates in their sleighs, dressed in their Carnival finery, and attended by footmen. Numbers in the text, plates and index identify each nobleman and woman described. The highest of Vicenza society is thus depicted: Barbarani, Trissino, Verlate, di Vello, Caldogne, Burri, Bissari, Tornieri, and others. The fine printing of the text and contemporary hand-colouring of the plates, heightened with gold and silver, suggest that this volume was published principally for distribution among the very families it celebrates. Melzi (I, 258) identified the author as Arnaldo Tornieri, himself a member of one of the distinguished Vicenza families. Rare, not in the standard bibliographies.
