UNRECORDED, all known early editions of this popular romance were printed in Lyons. Cf. the list of editions in Brunet V, 1035-37. Brunet however does mention a Paris edition printed by Michel Le Noir, of which an imperfect copy was offered in a Tross catalogue in 1863. According to P. Renouard Répertoire des Imprimeurs Parisiens (1964), p.413/4 Jean Trepperel I was printing at the above address from 1504 until his death in 1511. He was succeeded by his widow in partnership with Jean Jehannot until 1521 and alone until 1525, after that by other members of the family at the same address. There is little doubt however that the book was printed in the early years of the 16th century, although it is not listed in Renouard-Moreau, Inventaire Chronologique.
