VIGNOLA, Giacomo Barozzio da (1507-1573). Regola delli cinque ordini d' architettura. [n.p.: n.d. but ca. 1600].

2° (407 x 270mm). Engraved throughout, title, dedication and 42 plates. (Final plate with repair to lower outer corner, just affecting plate area, the three preceding plates with small repairs to outer margins, just affecting plate area, some old browning and staining, heavy on the last few plates.) Modern vellum-backed boards (slight damage to foot of spine).

AN UNRECORDED EARLY EDITION. The plates are apparently about 5mm. taller than those used in the first of 1562; the title includes the arms of Cardinal Farnese; all the leaves except the title are numbered (II-XXXXIIII); this edition includes as plate III prospetto generale dei cinque ordini which does not exist in earlier editions, all with only 32 plates. It also has the plates of doorways attributed to Michelangelo, and may be placed between the Spanish edition edited by Patrizio Cascesi (1593) and the Rome edition of 1602 published by Giovanni Orlando.
