Lot Essay

The symbols of the cross among the light and the lotus probably represent Christianity and Buddhism. There were occasions when Buddhist believers having been pressed into the Jesuit or Franciscan faith, had difficulty in absorbing their new belief completely. Consequently, some emblems encorporating both faiths were depicted.
