A LARGE GEORGE III SATINWOOD AND MARQUETRY TEA-CADDY
The oval hinged domed lid with hinged white metal handle and shaped scallop-shell issuing from a stiff-leaf medallion, above a simulated fluted band, enclosing a central leather-lined compartment flanked by two zinc-lined compartments with rosewood lids, the front with armorial shield of four painted double-headed eagles over a chevron band, flanked by foliate scrolls, the sides with urns with goat head handles hung with swags and the reverse with a spray of flowers, minor losses to the marquetry, restorations around the keyhole

Lot Essay

The coat-of-arms on the front of this tea-caddy appears to have been altered when the area surrounding the keyhole was restored. Although the present arms are not identifiable, they closely relate to the arms of Ashby in Leicestershire.
