The curved rectangular top decorated with C-scroll cartouches with animals and double-gourd bottles within cloud-shaped patterns and a geometric outer border, the sides with shaped piercing similarly decorated with cranes and with shaped angle brackets

Lot Essay

This table relates to a group of low tables referred to as 'Psaltery Tables', which were used as stands for a zither, psalter or a related instrument. A related table is illustrated in G. Ecke, Chinese Domestic Furniture, Tokyo, 1960, pl. 60.
