Lot Essay

The château de Compiègne, which was rebuilt and refurnished during the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI, was stripped of its contents during the revolution. When there was a renewed interest in the château from 1807 onwards, Jacob-Desmalter, Marcion, Feuchère and others were commissioned to refurnish it, partially in the Louis XVI manner.
