The octagonal top with banding above a shallow frieze centred by flowerheads and fruiting oak wreaths above the canted triangular spreading shaft and a conforming plinth with banding to the edges, on foliate scrolling paw feet and castors, formerly with tilt-top mechanism, restorations, with two depository labels stamped LADY CUNLIFFE 27 9 50

Lot Essay

The tilt-top breakfast or dining-room table has a scrolled tripod-altar pedestal with plinth and bacchic palm-scrolled lion-paw feet that derive from the antique style promoted by Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807. Patterns for related Regency tilt-top tables featured in Brown's Rudiments of Drawing Cabinet and Upholstery Furniture of 1822.
