Lot Essay

This sideboard table, with its paired and Grecian-scrolled legs and panelled frieze framing a medallion is designed in the antique manner promoted by Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration of 1807. The panelled sabre legs parallel the magnificent set of dining-chairs attributed to Marsh and Tatham that were made for the Shepherd family of Brabourne Manor, Kent, and which were sold in these Rooms, 11 April 1991, lot 83.
A slightly larger table of this model was in the collection of H.J. Joel, Esq., at Childwickbury, Hertfordshire, sold Christie's house sale, 15 May 1978, lot 83.
