Lot Essay

An almost identical games-table was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 13 February 1975, lot 129. Another very similar writing-table was also sold in these rooms, 13 October 1988, lot 103.
The ormolu beading and the use of cedar to line the drawer is slightly characteristic of the work of John McLean & Son (1770-1825).
