Lot Essay

The sofas are likely to have formed part of the drawing room furniture commissioned by Arther Hill-Trevor, 2nd Viscount Dungannon (d. 1837) following his aggrandisement of his Jacobean house around 1808. Their Grecian reed-enriched feet correspond to furniture manufactured by Gillows at this period.
