A SET OF TWELVE MAHOGANY DINING-CHAIRS OF REGENCY STYLE
In the manner of Gillows
Each with panelled curved tablet toprail with scrolled ends above a horizontal splat centred by a reeded patera, the padded seat covered in close-nailed red leather, on reeded sabre legs (12)

Lot Essay

The appearance of these chairs is very similar to a set of sixteen made by Gillows of Lancaster for R.O. Gascoigne, Esq., of Parlington Hall, Aberford, in 1810-11, one of which is in the Leeds Collection at Lotherton Hall and is illustrated in C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, London, 1978, Vol.II, p.376. The Parlington chairs have almost identical reeded uprights and sabre legs, and carved central splat.
