AN OTTOMAN GILT AND INSET SILVER DAGGER
TURKEY, 1789-1807 AD

The tapering double-edged wavy blade of watered steel with medial ridge, decorated above with interlaced gold arabesques, the waisted grip of undecorated silver-gilt save for the upper terminal inset with a central cabochon emerald, ringed by petals set with diamonds, the sheath similarly plain, save for a narrow collar engraved with a floral meander, the boteh shaped knop with a cast floral spray on each side, stamped with the tughra of Selim III, gilding rubbed, blade with areas of corrosion
