A MUGHAL DAGGER WITH QAJAR SHEATH
INDIA, 18TH CENTURY AND PERSIA, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
The dagger with recurved ridged double-sided tapering blade of watered steel, carved above with a plain cusped part medallion with pendant, the heavy pale nephrite jade hilt inset with diagonal rows of small foiled corundum and beryl floral trefoils, the scrolling lower terminals with inset serrated leaves supporting a similar flowerhead with diamond centre on each side, the upper terminals with similar corundum and diamond flowerhead, the upper spine with a similar cypress tree issuing tendrils, slight damages to tree, four stones missing, the red velvet covered wooden sheath with gold mounts above and below, a third cartouche mount on one side, each finely enamelled with gul-o bulbul designs of floral sprays and perching birds, within green serrated leaf borders, a band of similar lozenges above, terminal missing, very slight damage to enamel
