Lot Essay

This is a fine example of linear decoration rendered by cutting on the wheel. Decorative elements are often geometric as here. The inner surface of the grooved line was usually left unpolished. This type of vessel intended as a sprinkler, seems to have been developed in Iran around the 10th Century, where it is also found in silver.
