Lot Essay

This is an unusual type of vessel, presumably a lamp. The wicks were perhaps intended to be threaded through the twelve openwork rings. The body is made of quatz frit with an aubergine coloured glaze, another rare feature. The engraved kufic inscription is on a foliate ground, typical of the period.
