Of rounded form with everted sloping rim, the shoulder engraved with a band of fine continuous naskh giving invocations to the twelve Imams, a band below with further naskh cartouches alternating with arabesque, floral spray and cloudband roundels, one of the cartouches with a nasta'liq inscription giving the name of the original owner 'Ja'far b. Mira...', the main body with a band of roundels containing cloudbands alternating with arabesques divided by paired part panels of diaper, fish-scale or floral and arabesque motifs, the rim with a band of nasta'liq verse cartouches alternating with roundels, areas of surface rubbing

Lot Essay

The principal inscription immediately below the rim consists of invocations to the Prophet, Fatima and the Twelve Imams. Below are cartouches containing Persian verses and the owner's name.
