A Gold and enamel gem-set casket
maker's mark of Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Co. Ltd., London, 1902
Rectangular and on four scroll and acanthus bracket feet, the front of the base applied with a shaped cartouche applied with ruby, sapphire and diamond initials above laurel sprays, the upper border of the base chased and engraved with lotus plants on a matted ground, with openwork scrolling foliage supports to the angle of the casket sides, the sides applied with four rectangular plaques each with a building and a central circular plaque divided into four panels and painted with a beehive, the figure of Justice sitting beside a lion, a ship passing beside a railway bridge and train, and a cornucopia of flowers, with the back panel engraved with foliate scrolls, the hinged cover with chased and engraved folaite border on matted ground and raised fluted centre panel, the finial formed as Minerva, her staff set with rose-diamonds, marked on the base, flange and staff and inscribed on the inner rim 'GOLDSMITHS & SILVERSMITHS CO. LTD 112 REGENT ST W.'
