maker's mark of Jens Christensen Seestell, Trondhiem, circa 1685
Cylindrical and on three claw and ball feet, chased above with flowers and foliage above, scroll handle, eagle thumbpiece and hinged slightly domed cover chased with a band of flowers and foliage, the body later engraved with two names, the date 1775 and a quotation from the Book of Proverbs within wreath cartouche, the cover engraved with two names and inscription dated 1685, marked on base

Lot Essay

The inscription on the cover reads 'MAREN CARSTENS D - ESKE PEDER JOHANSEN HOLT, Augustinius Hanssen Juger peders Daatternolt 1685.'
and on the body 'Melcher Melcher Sen Bodicker, Caterine Jens Datter Dreier, J. E. S. B., E. J. D. B., 1775'
