Plain triangular and with detachable cylindrical covers with moulded borders, each engraved with a coat-of-arms within a shell, scroll and foliage cartouche, marked on sides, bases and covers, each engraved with the scratch weight Pr 13=12=0

Lot Essay

These unusual caddies are from a group of triangular tea caddies all by Anthony Nelme, dating from either 1716 or 1717. Three were exhibited at the celebrated Loan Exhibition of Old English Plate, March 1929, held at Sir Phillip Sasson's London House, 29 Park Lane. Two pairs first appeared at auction in the sale of the R. W. M. Walker Collection, Christie's, London, 10 and 11 July 1945, lot 143 and 144
