Small 4° (210 x 150mm). (Without first and last ?blanks.) BINDING DESIGNED BY THOMAS JAMES COBDEN-SANDERSON, bound by Charles Wilkinson, finished by Charles McLeish senior, at the Doves Bindery, covers with double-fillet borders, triple rose leaves and small roundels in gilt at the corners, in the upper quarter of the front cover a stylised wreath of wild roses across the title Ru baiy at, spine in six compartments panelled in gilt with a single fillet, with raised bands, lettered in one, dated at the foot, gilt turn-ins, g.e., signed on lower turn-in: The Doves Bindery 19 C-S 03. Provenance: Caroline B.Poole (pencilled note at back).

A fine copy, in a sympathetic binding, of the third edition of Fitzgerald's celebrated poetical paraphrase (with 101 quatrains): the first was published in 1859, in an edition of 250 copies (with 75 quatrains); a second in 1868, in an edition limited to 500 copies (with 110 quatrains). A fourth edition, the last published during Fitzgerald's lifetime, appeared in 1879.
