A binding for the greatest German princely book collector of the Renaissance, Ottheinrich (1502-59), Count Palatine of the Rhine, by his court bookbinder Jörg Bernhardt of Görlitz. Bindings from Ottheinrich's library are very rare, as his entire library, together with that of the other Counts and Electors Palatine, was presented to Pope Gregory XV by Maximilian I of Bavaria, following his conquest of Heidelberg. They now form the 'Bibliotheca Palatina', as part of the Vatican Library. See Bibliotheca Palatina Katalog, Heidelberg: 1986.
