From the early 1950s until shortly before Marilyn Monroe's death, Eve Arnold had six photo assignments with her, the longest continuing for two months during the filming of 'The Misfits'. Eve Arnold and Marilyn Monroe were to develop a strong friendship and during the early days of filming, Monroe asked Arnold to stay on until she had finished filming. Eve Arnold has recorded her memories of this shoot in her book Marilyn Monroe: An appreciation. In this image Marilyn Monroe was out in the Nevada desert going over her lines in preparation for a difficult scene she was about to play with Clark Gable.
