Naturalistically modelled as an open gourd set on a leaf, a flower arching to form the handle, subtle cream and grey/blue glaze streaked with amber and speckled brown
8½in. (21.5cm.) high
Underside with impressed artist's monogram, incised date 94, faint ink inscription (indecipherable)

Lot Essay

This piece dates from the same year as the death of Hoentschel's close friend and mentor, Jean Carriès, and the form of the piece is evocative of Carriès' more naturalistic pieces, perhaps in homage to the two artists association.
