1975 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER SHADOW
Registration No. KKK 304N
Chassis No. SRH 21337
Engine No. 21337
Ivory and brown Everflex roof with brown leather interior.
Engine: V8 overhead valve, cast aluminium alloy crankcase and cylinder heads, 6,750cc; Gearbox: three-speed automatic with torque converter; Brakes: disc brakes all round; Suspension: fully independent with automatic hydraulic height control system. Right hand drive.
Whenever a new breed of motor car is announced it creates interest and this was none more so than with the introduction of the Silver Shadow and T Series Rolls Royce and Bentley. In keeping with more modern tradition, they were the first cars built by Rolls-Royce of monocoque construction, the conventional chassis frame replaced by a front sub-assembly and a rear sub-assembly for the back axle and suspension. Power was from the 6.2 litre, eight cylinder, light alloy engine whilst other features such as hydraulic disc brakes and an improved power-assisted steering system ensured that the new model was mechanically very up to date. Although the car did not have any sporting pretentions it was still quite swift and, as always, accommodated four passengers in great comfort and style. Latterly, the engine displacement was increased to 6,750cc by lengthening the stroke, this extra power partly absorbed by the refrigeration compressor system and emission control devices.
The example here has an excellent history in that it was first purchased by Mrs. Barratt-Stennett from Jack Barclay Limited and she kept the car until last year when she bequeathed it to the current owner who is now offering it for sale. The car was originally registered BS 26 and the indicated mileage now stands at approximately 93,300. The last stamped service was in September 1993 when the mileage was 91,500; the service maintenance record is sold with the car. It is still in its original ivory paintwork with dark brown Everflex roof and has dark brown leather upholstery, door trim, headlining, dash-top and carpeting. Rear head restraints are fitted and there are brown over-rugs to the front and rear. The car also has an eight-track stereo system and a Blaupunkt radio and it still has its full tool pack. On inspection, and on a short test drive, the car behaved well with no discernable untoward noises from the suspension and the power steering operated as it should. Indeed, the mechanical specification appears to be in good order and the electrically operated front seats and electric windows all operate. The bodywork does require a little attention, however the car is perfectly usable and carries an MoT certificate until September this year. It must surely represent excellent value considering its prestigious manufacture and interesting history. The car is sold with all of the original booklets as supplied including handbook, radio brochure, warranty and Owners Information pamphlet.
