Lot Essay

Cf. the matched pair of tureens and stands in the Copeland Collection, illustrated by W. Sargent, op.cit., pp. 206-208, no.100 and fig.100a. However it is rare to find tureens of this type complete with stands; cf. F. et N. Hervouët et Y. Bruneau, op.cit., p.105, no.4.73 for a tureen stand from the Metropolitan Museum, New York; C. Le Corbeiller, op.cit., p.113, no.48 for a stand originally in the Collection of Mrs. Nellie Ionides and ibid. p.114, fig.61 for a tureen from the McCann Collection in the Metropolitan Museum. A pair of tureens, covers and stands (with European figure finials) was sold in our Monaco Rooms, 20 June 1988, lot 121
