D. S. Howard and J. Ayers, ibid., illustrate a pair of plates from the Mottahedeh Collection, one being this lot, and the other plate bearing a different central scene. There are a total of twelve different central scenes on a number of services in this style. The border and rim decoration is similar to the Wedgwood service made for Catherine the Great of Russia, which had over a thousand different central views.
