Lot Essay
A closely related mirror of circa 1700, attributed to the Swedish craftsman and designer Gustaf Precht, is illustrated in G. Child, World Mirrors, London, 1990, p. 297, fig. 678, and almost certainly again in F.J.B. Watson, The Wrightsman Collection, New York, 1966, no. 209. The pattern has been attributed to the Bremen cabinet-maker Burchard Precht, who established his workshop in Stockholm, and worked at Drottningholm Palace, in 1674. A mirror of almost identical design was anonymously sold in these Rooms, 15 December 1994, lot 489, while a further example was sold anonymously at Sotheby's London, 19 May 1995, lot 105.
