A SET OF SIX PIEDMONTESE CREAM-PAINTED AND PARCEL-GILT SIDE CHAIRS
Late 18th Century
Each with shield-shaped back with pierced drapery-hung foliate splats supported by upturned foliage, the seat-rails with flowerheads to the angles and serpentine drop-in seat covered in yellow floral silk, on square tapering fluted legs and tapering feet, five with later blocks, one leg spliced, the backs with restored splits, the decoration refreshed (6)

Lot Essay

An identical chair dated to circa 1790, from the collection of Piero Accorsi, Turin, is illustrated in C. Morazzoni, II Mobile Neoclassico Italiano, Milan, 1955, plate CCXLIII.
A closely related suite of seat-furniture was sold anonymously at Sotheby's New York, 27 March 1993, lot 359.
