AN ITALIAN WHITE-PAINTED CONSOLE TABLE

The bowed breakfront pink and yellow marble top above a panelled frieze with pierced flowerhead-filled trellis framed by beaded bands, the angles with panelled flowerheads above scrolling and foliate legs joined by a shaped panelled stretcher with fluted and stiff-leaf central urn, on a gadrooned boss and griffin legs, restorations, the underside of the marble inscribed in black pen I KANZLER 5/6/59

The supports centred by an urn as well as the pierced frieze, relate to a design of circa 1780 by Clemens Lipper (H. Kreisel, Die Kunst des deutschen Möbels, Munich, 1973, vol.III, fig. 92).
